It’s a Celebration! 30 things to accomplish in year 30

Write a list of accomplishments or celebrations you want to have this year.

Some call it a bucket list, others call it just a to-do list or a wish list. I shall call this list “30 celebrations.” This list is all over the place, kind of like me. I joke that I am a jack of all trades and a master at life. I’ve had more than my fair share of heartache and pain, but I digress. This post is about what I have set out to accomplish this year.

Over all, 2017 has been dubbed the year of Fearlessness (if you search #fearlessin2017 you will hopefully see some of posts). I like to pick a word that I will focus on for the year. This is first year that I have ever stuck to it. I will consider this a win.

I took to my Facebook page to ask my friends, family and followers what kinds of activities I should add to my list. I had a general idea, but I was lacking a few. Ironically enough, a lot of the suggestions had to do with heights (skydiving, zip lining, etc) and I am afraid (maybe slightly terrified?) of heights. As in, it gives me legit anxiety, I start to sweat under my arms and the hair on the back of my neck stands up. But I would venture to say at least 50% of the suggestions had that theme.


Is this the universe’s way of reminding me that I said I would be fearless in 2017? Roger that. I hear you loud and clear universe.

Ok, so without further stalling, shall we get into the list? This list is in no particular order, except how my brain works.

  1. Purchase of bottle of Piper Champagne. If it’s good enough for Marilyn Monroe, it’s good enough for me. Although I won’t be purchasing a $1000 bottle. But I would like to try this champagne nonetheless. {Read Thanksgiving post here}
  2. Take a Hot Air Ballon Ride. I am petrified of heights (remember we just talked about this). But there is something about the view from above that is pulling at me. There is a hot air balloon festival within in hour’s drive of my house. I really want to take a ride. I don’t think I could ever do skydiving or bungie jumping. So a hot air ballon ride seems to be the next best thing.
  3. Take a honeymoon…finallyThis one, is already half in the bag. You see, I earned a trip to Punta Cana for my husband and I, and we are considering this our honeymoon (although our 4th anniversary is on the horizon). We are so looking forward to the beach, drinks and spa. More about this one to come in the next couple of months. {Read Honeymoon post here}
  4. Travel to London. I have always been fascinated with the UK. As a child, I had a scrapbook of Princess Diana (I already told you that Prince William and I share a birthday), and even now as an adult I am drawn the monarchy. I would love to see the sites and to take my shot at meeting the Queen (I have high standards for this trip). Since I have a friend who is English and plans on traveling to London next summer, why not add this to my list? I will be more than satisfied to just go the Princess Diana museum.
  5. Run a race. I don’t even know why I am putting this on here. I know that as soon as I hit publish, the universe is going to hold me accountable. You see, I have this love hate (recently mostly hate) relationship with running. But I know that I can do it. I also know that I NEED to do it. What I am not specifying is the distance of the race I will participate in. I don’t want to put TOO much pressure on myself. I have got a lot of work to do. I have registered for races in the past, but I have never shown up to participate in them. That changes this year. This year, I will follow through.
  6. Get my nose pierced.  This is another one of those things that I have been “meaning” to do. If I am being completely honest with myself and with you, I am scared. It will hurt. I might cry. But I really want to get it done. So this year, I will get my nose pierced. That is if I can decided what side I actually want pierced. (sidenote: are you seeing the common thread here? As I am writing this, I can’t help but see that fear is a common denominator here. Thankfully, I am #fearlessin2017 right?)
  7. Do a boudoir shoot. Talk about being afraid. I have gained a lot of weight over the past year and a half. I don’t necessarily like looking at myself sometimes in the mirror. The thought of getting in front of a camera and be completely vulnerable is terrifying to me. But this year, I am trying to find peace within myself. I am learning to love who I am right at this very moment and not shame myself into being something that I am not. I am learning to love myself through every part of this journey and not just love the idea of what I think I can be. I may not have the perfect body, but this body that I have is capable of great things. Now, to translate this confidence to do this photoshoot.
  8. Henna.  I think it is pretty and I wanted to try it. So why not?
  9. Attend a Broadway Play. I have been before. But not as an adult. I would love to live it up in NYC for a weekend. Drink champagne, buy a fancy outfit and see a show. I love musicals. Now to decide what play to see. I can’t wait to do this.
  10. Take a picture with the Christmas Tree in Rockefeller Center.  I have been to NYC multiple times. I have NEVER been during Christmas (which is the most Wonderful time of the year, right?) I have got to get my picture with the tree and the lights! Maybe I can make a weekend trip in the city and check off a few things off my list (see number 9).
  11. Take a Road Trip. I am thinking like the flip a coin trip. Heads, you turn right, tails your turn left and see where you end up. I would love to do this with a few of my girlfriends. Who is ready for a road trip adventure?
  12. Publish a book. I use the term book loosely. But I want to publish some of the things I have written and are currently writing. I have a lot to say and I know that the experiences I have might help others along their way. This might be the scariest thing on my list, but I am so excited to share my life with more in depth with you all.
  13. Spend 24 hours completely isolated.  No electronics, no communication. Just me alone for 24 hours. Perhaps in a cabin where I can just write and be. I would love to document this with my camera and my journal so that I can report back. I am sure some great things will transpire from this.
  14. Volunteer at a soup kitchen.  I have never done this before, and I think it would be an eyeopening, humbling experience.
  15. Go on a hay ride. Again, this is something that I have not done in years, but I can remember being a young child and even a teenager and just loving it. Where I live in upstate New York, fall is (in my opinion) the best season. The harvest of the grapes and the fall foliage is so beautiful. It is so easy to take it for granted. I don’t want to do that this year. A hayride with hot apple cider, warm cider doughnuts, sweaters and jeans. Oh bring on Fall.
  16. Plant a garden.  I don’t know the first thing about gardening. But I do have an acre of land as my back yard. I would like to (at least once) actually have a small garden that produces something I can eat. This may be more of an undertaking than I am willing to admit at the time, but it must be done.
  17. Spend a night under the stars. I love to be outdoors. My family owns about 90 acres of land and some of my best memories there is building a campfire and sleeping outside under the stars.
  18. Learn a new skill. I am not sure what it will be, but I want to learn something new this year.
  19. Create a space of women.  I am not sure what this will look like, but I want to be able to provide a physical space for women to gather and to be inspired and motivated to be the best version of themselves.
  20. Attend a NFL game.  There are a few games that I would love to see in person this season.
  21. Write a letter to myself.  I will open it the day I turn forty.
  22. Remove the wallpaper from my house.  We recently purchased our first home (and by recently I mean almost a year ago now) and it is so very much outdated. Now that we are settled (all of the unpacked boxes are in the attic and/or the basement), it is the perfect time (or year) to (start to) remove the wallpaper. I am going to need a lot of support with this. I am not handy; and neither is my husband. But I can tell you now, we will not be hiring someone to remove wallpaper and paint for us. Oh this ought to be interesting.
  23. Create an inspiration board. Here is another one of those things I have had every intention of finishing and never ever have. Something super chic that is the epitome of inspiration to me, nicely framed and easy on the eyes. I want to create this board sooner rather than later.
  24. Get Healthy.  I have learned enough over the years to not put a number with this one. It doesn’t work. And now, to be quite frank, I don’t care about the number on the scale. Sure, I have seen it creep slowly (well moderately) up over the past year and I would love for it to sprint back down. But more importantly, I want to be healthy. I want to feel healthy again. Feel energized, not complain that [x] is hurting so bad. I want to be able to participate in activities again and not need time (days) to recuperate. I want to build my strength back up. I know what healthy feels like, and that is what I want more than a certain number on the scale.
  25. Actually use a planner.  I know I can’t be the only one. I have dozens of planners that have maybe at best a month’s worth of planning in them before I stopped using it or moved on to a new one. I just got (another) new planner that began in the month of July. So far, I am at about 45% usage. But I have told myself that I can not get another planner until this one is done NEXT summer. So now lets see if I actually use it, or if it will sit on my desk and take up space.
  26. Do one thing each month that scares me.  The easy part is that I am scared of a lot of things. I shouldn’t have any trouble finding something that scares me. But to actually do it, even though I am scared is going to be so hard.
  27. Spend an entire day at a spa.  Everyone deserves to be pampered right? I have never spent an entire day at a spa, and there are some great ones around the area where I live.
  28. Complete a 30 day blog post challenge. I have to be honest here. I have never completed any type of 30 day challenge before. My longest streak to date is 21 days. So I want to complete this challenge because I know that the only thing I am consistent at is inconsistency.
  29. Read 30 books.  It has been way too long since I actually sat down and read a book. Let alone 30 of them.
  30. Celebrate every day like it’s my birthday. I will be grateful for the time I have, and I will be excited for what is coming in the future.
