Baby Things I swear by for the First Year

I don’t think there is a blog that exists that doesn’t have some type of “newborn must haves” for you to read and I am no exception. Take it from the girl who never thought Mommahood was in the cards for her to hear this: The only things you need is You, Your baby, Diapers, Wipes, and some clothing. All of this other stuff, I like to think of as “little luxuries”. Things that make it easier are you and your baby. These are by no means necessities, though. So I just wanted to get that out of the way. Oh another thing that I have to say (insert eye roll here) Some of the links in this blog post are commissionable links! If you purchase from the link, I get a very small commission from the brand, at no additional cost to you! I do SO appreciate when you use my links to make your purchases!

This list is in no particular order, all are equally luxurious in my book. And most of these items will actually get you through the first year and beyond.

Baby Bjorn Mini Carrier

Ok so let me tell you about my little friend named the mini carrier. This thing saved my life. As a first time mom and a grieving/anxious mom, I was completely overwhelmed by the wrap carriers. I couldn’t figure them out for anything. And honestly, the last thing I wanted to do when my baby was screaming was spend 27 minutes trying to watch a Youtube tutorial on how to wrap my now screaming its head off infant (yes, this really happened to me. How else do you think I know that it takes 27 minutes?). Spare yourself and get this carrier. Jax is a super little guy being that he is a twin and this carrier takes all of 45 seconds from start to finish to snap (praise Jesus, hallelujah )on. I use this thing every day.

Baby Bjorn Bouncer Chair

This next item is from the same company. I really do love their items. They are just so user friendly. This chair is good until toddler aged which is great because if there is one thing I learned it’s that you don’t use anything for a long amount of time. It can be daunting when you are using products once or twice and then moving on to the next. I love this chair because of its longevity. My three year old little cousin enjoys this chair just as much as my baby. I consider that to be a win-win. I did also purchase the toy bar and the carrying case for this chair as well.

Puree Food Maker

When the time comes to start food, you might want to skip this step altogether. For me, I am grateful to live in a place where fresh produce is available year round and I have the time (and energy with the help of some great people) to help me tackle the process of making my own baby food. This little contraption makes it easy and fun! We had a blast using this. I did also purchase one time pouches and reusable pouches to store the food in my freezer. If you’re looking for an even more eco-friendly solution you can get mason jars instead of pouches.

Double Monitor

We had initially registered for this monitor because we were having twins. Now we have one monitor set up over Jax’s crib and one in an area he usually naps in. The second monitor moves around and I love that parent piece can travel around as well. This connects over wi-fi and seems to work pretty well in my house (approx. 2800 sq feet and 2 levels).

Cool Mist Humidifier

This is a game changer. Especially in the colder months. Living in Upstate New York, as soon as the heat kicks in, the house gets so flipping dry. This humidifier also has the option to add some vapor goodies in the event of winter colds. When Jax was sleeping in our room, the humidifier was there. Now I am contemplating purchasing one for our room since baby boy seems to like his crib more and more these days.

Hatch Sound Machine

Warning: this machine puts everyone to sleep, not just the baby. I can’t tell you how many times Trevor and I have fallen asleep rocking Jax only to wake up an hour or more later! I love that I can control this from my phone, there are hundreds of different settings (lighting, sound, volume, time, etc) so that you can find the perfect combination for you and your baby.

Diaper Bag

If you are looking for a bag that you can carry your whole entire life in and your significant other will carry it too, look no further than this bag. I purchased this bag when Jax and I flew to Vegas by ourselves and I needed to bring ALL THE THINGS with us just in case. This bag is amazing! There is room for all of your needs whether it’s a day trip, a weekend trip or even longer. The black is chic yet versatile enough that Trevor has no problem throwing it on his back. I would opt for a backpack diaper bag every time. Especially love the clips that will attach to the outside of the stroller or shopping cart, so you can maximize the space during your daily target runs. What? You don’t go to Target on a daily basis?

Toy Keys

Jax’s favorite toy hands down. He loves these so much that we bought multiple sets. The best five dollars I have ever spent. Get yourself a set or six. Seriously. Take my word for it.

Little Sleepies

If you follow me on Instagram you will have noticed my obsession with these pajamas. I know. they are pajamas. But they are not your average pajamas. They are bamboo. They are soft. They are smooth. They go on like butter. They have double zippers making those night diaper changes so much easier. They grow with your baby so you can literally have the same pair for years. They have adorable patterns and solids. I could go on and on. The point is, you need to get you some. right now. go. don’t read anymore. Just go. Oh and use JERAKAH15 at checkout to save 15% on your order every time!

I am sure there are more things, but these are the highlights. I look forward to doing this post again for 12-18 months. I would love to know, what are your baby must haves?
